Kat Howland graduated from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio in May 2014 with a Bachelor of Arts in Media and Culture from the Department of Media, Journalism & Film.  She was an NCAA Division I student-athlete, US Figure Skating Collegiate National Champion, and three-time member of Team USA, with a special place in her heart for Synchronized Skating.

Kat is a graduate student at Southern New Hampshire University studying Information Technology, and a coach with the Synchro Stars, New Hampshire’s premiere synchronized skating organization with athletes from Maine, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire.  She is a passionate advocate for equity, empowerment, health & wellness, and STEM education through Computer Science for All.  She volunteers with You Can Play, Let’s Move!/The President’s Council on Fitness, Sports & Nutrition (have you heard about the new #0to60 campaign?), Special Olympics, Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, and STEM initiatives like Girls Technology Days.

Kat is a four-time Miss America Organization local titleholder earning over $21,000 in scholarships:

  • Crowned Miss Oxford at Miami University on March 2, 2013 and represented Oxford at the Miss Ohio Scholarship Program in Mansfield, Ohio in June 2013.
  • Won Miss Weirs Beach in July 2013 and represented the Miss Winnipesaukee/Miss Weirs Beach Scholarship Program at the Miss New Hampshire Competition in May 2014, winning the Miss America Community Service Award.
  • A Top Ten Finalist, winner of the Miss America Community Service Award, and recipient of the Lisa Cripps Richer Humanitarian Award at Miss New Hampshire 2015 as Miss Gate City.
  • She was crowned Miss Rockingham County 2016 and competed in the 2016 Miss New Hampshire Scholarship Program.
  • Kat participated in four Dance Marathons for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals and was the top New Hampshire titleholder fundraiser for Miss America Serves 2016.  She was honored to receive the Paula Moore Spirit Award, the Brenda E Keith Interview Award, and the Tiffany Phillips Scholar-Athlete Award from the Miss America Organization.

She blogs often on a multitude of different subjects, but her heart lies in music, sports, and all social media integration and expansion topics.
