Did you know Miami University received the 2012 Presidential Award from The Corporation for National and Community Service and the U.S. Department of Education? Social justice, service learning and community building are incredibly important at Miami University. Our motto is Love and Honor. Students are given wonderful opportunities to volunteer in Oxford and Butler County through the Office of Community Engagement and Service and Miami Athletics community outreach.

My personal mission for the summer is to demonstrate my commitment to excellence in academics (summer internship course work/3.4 GPA in Spring 2012), athletics (on ice and off ice training), community service, social responsibility and personal health/well-being. I set aside one day each week to volunteer for local and national charities including:

  • May 13th Portland SeaDogs Mother’s Day 5K to benefit Maine Breast Cancer Patients and Research
  • May 20th Kites Against Cancer volunteer at Hampton Beach to support the Beyond The Rainbow Fund At Exeter Hospital
  • June 1st NH’s 43rd Annual Special Olympic Summer Games volunteer at UNH with 950 athletes
  • June 11th Assistant to Master of Ceremonies Kelly Brown from WERZ/WHEB at the 20th Annual Paws Walk at Stratham Hill Park, raising over $140,000 for the NHSPCA
  • June 21st Producer of the 5th Annual Strafford County Scholarship Program Fundraiser to benefit Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals
  • June 22nd Father’s Day 5K to benefit Goodwin Community Health Center
  • July 1st Media Partner at the Boston-Portsmouth Air Show Plane Pull for Wounded Warriors, a “giant tug-of-war” pulling a 130,000-pound aircraft to raise over $40,000 for the www.WoundedWarriorProject.org
  • July 4th Fourth of July Spirit of Sandwich Road Race to benefit the Sandwich Recreation Department
  • July 8th Welcome Home Parade for returning Veterans
  • July 21st Cara’s Crusade Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation FunRaiser
  • July 23rd 7th Annual Crescentia Classic Golf Tournament to benefit On-Belay
  • July 27th Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals Miracle Treat Day
  • July 28th Fitness.gov “Let’s Move Day”/New England Color Run to benefit http://www.homesforourtroops.org
  • August 9th Running on the WMUR-TV team for the Cigna-Elliot Corporate 5k to raise funds for NH charitable health care programs and the Elliot Health System
  • August 11th Spartan Sprint in Amesbury to benefit http://www.homesforourtroops.org
  • August 12th Jumper Classic to benefit Therapeutic Riding and Equine Rescue Programs
  • Weekly local workouts with the President’s Challenge/PALA+ (learn more at Fitness.gov)
