5,656 timed finishers set a new New Hampshire road race record at the 23rd Cigna/Elliot Corporate 5K Road Race.  There were over 6,300 runners and 285 Corporate Teams registered.  The start of the race is televised live on WMUR-TV.IMG_1497

IMG_1498Congratulations to the winning teams from Raytheon (men) and Apple Therapy (women); and the Individual Champions:

  • Diriba Dege Yigezu of New York City won the race in 14:18
  • Grace Kahura of Mamaroneck, N.Y. was the fastest female finishing in 16:55
  • Top New Hampshire male Nick Karwoski of Moultonborough (15:07, seventh male overall)
  • Top New Hampshire female Denise Sandahl of Bow (17:58, fifth female overall)

This was my seventh time running the #cignaelliot5K with the WMUR/Miss NH Team.  Our Team Captain is Miss New Hampshire Host and Race Host Jamie Staton.  His running partner was my awesome state princess Julia Pellerin (all of the Pellerins are super fast).  I had the honor of singing the national anthem on Elm Street before the race, then Miss New Hampshire Holly Blanchard helped Manchester Mayor Ted Gatsas start the race.IMG_1505

Can you tell who has the winning #raceface? (Hint: It isn’t me. )

The Cigna/Elliot Corporate 5k always feels like a big party, but this year the energy on Elm Street was electric.  The crowd was huge and the music was pumping.  After the race, the party continued in Veteran’s Park with awards and delicious treats from Stonyfield (you have to try their new Oh My Yog! http://www.stonyfield.com/products/oh-my-yog).

Hope to see you next year for the 24th Cigna/Elliot Corporate 5K.  John Mortimer and his team at Millennium Running create amazing events.  They run New Hampshire.  To register for their next race, visit:  http://www.millenniumrunning.com
