inDid you know…
Today is National Eating Healthy Day, the perfect time to try new fruits or veggies like kiwis, beets, mango, sweet red bell peppers, cucumber slices, or edamame.
Most Americans only consume about half their recommended daily servings of fruits and vegetables. The American Heart Association recommends eating eight or more fruit and vegetable servings every day. For an average adult consuming 2,000 calories daily, that means about 4½ cups of fruits and vegetables a day.
Fruits and vegetables are high in vitamins, minerals, and fiber, and low in saturated fat and calories. Most fruits and vegetables also have no or little sodium, and eating a variety of fruits and vegetables helps control weight and blood pressure.
While heart disease and stroke are leading causes of death and disability for all Americans, more than 80 percent of risk factors for heart disease and stroke are preventable through behaviors like making better food choices, getting regular exercise, keeping a healthy weight and not smoking.
Be sure to celebrate National Eating Healthy Day with a rainbow on your plate. Try red, green, yellow, orange, and purple fruits and veggies to get the full spectrum of vitamins and minerals.

Over winter break I had the opportunity to skate a practice with New Hampshire’s premiere synchronized skating program for young skaters. The Synchro Stars, from Nashua, are the most amazing group of young synchronized skaters and they are competing at the Eastern Sectional Championships this Weekend! Good luck girls!!

inHow can it be November already? This semester has been incredibly busy with:
17 credit hours (plus homework and projects)
12+ hours per week at an internship with a non-profit doing incredible advocacy work (more on that later)
10+ hours per week of fitness (skating with the Miami Intercollegiate Team @MiamiIceSkating, off ice training and volunteering with the President’s Challenge at Fitness.gov)
Add in a Radio Show on WMSR, a little sleep and a little senior year fun…I’ll jump back into my blog soon.
Happy November.

I forgot to mention how much fun I had at the Miss Ohio Service and Duke of Edinburgh Weekend. Thank you to Sue, Holly and the volunteers who organized our Team Depot Day of Service and Adventurous Journey to Camp Mowana. The Miss Ohio Class of 2013 is a special group of inspiring women. It is wonderful to spend time together. To learn more about The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and the Young American’s Challenge, please visit http://www.usaward.org/

inMay 31st already?! Where did this month go?? June is gearing up to be a very exciting month! With Miss Ohio Week only days away, I thought this would be the perfect chance to share the songs that have been pumping me up at the gym!
1. Come & Get It (Jump Smokers Extended Mix) – Selena Gomez
There is nothing I love more than a good remix. This version takes the already catchy Gomez tune and kicks it up that extra notch. It has a strong baseline and a nice pace to help you achieve that 6 minute mile.
2. I Love it – Icona Pop (feat. Charli XCX)
Fast paced power jam that you can’t help but dance/run/sing along too
3. Aaron’s Party (Come Get It) – Aaron Carter
If you say you hate this song, you are lying. Nobody can hate this song, NOBODY! I bet you still remember most of the words to this 90s classic. Fun Fact, Aaron Carter is the youngest male solo artist to have four Top 40 singles.
4. Can’t Hold Us – Macklemore & Ryan Lewis
The Sharkfaced gang has done it again. Let this marching band style tune help you get through those last reps
5. Grown Woman – Beyonce
Is there any better motivation than Beyonce? Nope. This is her new track that you may have heard on the Pepsi Comercial. I cannot stop singing it! Nothing will make you want to strut your stuff on the treadmill more than this tune.
(PS How fierce is that leopard romper?)
Hopefully these 5 tunes can keep your motivation and heart rate up!
Love & Honor, Kat

Finals week is upon us! This means that the libraries will be packed to the brim with students hyped up on caffeine and cramming for exams. If you are a college student you know that one of the best ways to procrastinate studying is finding the perfect music to keep you motivated. Well – the procrastination stops here because I’ve compiled a playlist that will keep you focused and excited as you prep to ACE those final exams!
Covers. Covers are the perfect studying music because you already know all the words, so you can’t be distracted by new music you’ve never heard! These stripped down covers are soft enough to be the perfect background noise to your biochemistry study guide:
“Give Me Love” cover by Cali Wilson.
“Don’t You Worry Child” Cover by Conor Maynard
“Titanium” Cover by Madilyn Bailey
Soundtracks. Soundtracks are great to study to because they block out the surrounding hum of the library.
Here are some great 8Tracks soundtrack playlists:
Here is the perfect playlist for post finals celebration! You did it!
