Mallory Hagan, Miss America 2013 is sharing insights into her health and fitness routine while on the road. I love following Mallory’s Year of Service on Twitter @MissAmerica and Instagram. She is a real role model and her blog is very honest about how difficult it can be to find healthy meal options and gym time between flights, airports, hotels and service events. In just the first week of the 30 Day Challenge, Mallory has been to NYC, Las Vegas, DC, Arkansas and Montreal…I can’t wait to see tomorrow’s travel day!
I forgot to mention how much fun I had at the Miss Ohio Service and Duke of Edinburgh Weekend. Thank you to Sue, Holly and the volunteers who organized our Team Depot Day of Service and Adventurous Journey to Camp Mowana. The Miss Ohio Class of 2013 is a special group of inspiring women. It is wonderful to spend time together. To learn more about The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and the Young American’s Challenge, please visit http://www.usaward.org/
I can’t believe I leave for Miss Ohio in three days! I am so grateful for the opportunity to serve as Miss Oxford and build awareness of the President’s Challenge for a healthier America. And I’m having so much fun at parades, fundraisers, special events, fitness fairs and welcoming home our troops at Pease Air Force Base. The power of the Miss America crown is humbling. Serving as a local titleholder opens doors and creates tremendous opportunities for impact in the community.
I began my journey to the Miss Ohio Stage in 2011, during my freshman year at Miami University, competing in the Miss Greater Butler County Scholarship Program (won by my friend Janey Covel, who will be competing for the Miss Delaware crown in a few weeks – Go Janey!). I tried again in 2012 and was named First Runner-Up to Miss Greater Butler County Anjelica Francisco (who was named Overall Interview Winner and Second Runner-up at Miss Ohio 2012). On my third try, I (finally!) won the Miss Oxford crown. I have learned so much from my Local Director Jacky Johnson. She is passionate about and dedicated to the Miss America Organization. Thank you Jacky for helping me prepare for Mansfield while encouraging me to have fun and really enjoy this once-in-a-lifetime experience. (I can’t wait to read your new book!) Thank you to Miss Ohio Guru and Miami RedHawk Sophia Davis for all of your advice and brilliant suggestions. And thank you to the incredible team of fairy godmothers and volunteers who have shared their guidance and love.
Thank you to Henri’s Cloud Nine, Sherri Hill, Chris Saltalamacchio, Dr. Dana Rosengard, Peggy and Caroline Carter, Danielle Jean-Cowan, Kandice Pelletier Swimwear, Regalia Magnificent Apparel, Johnathan Kayne and Benjamin Walk Footwear, Tony Bowls, and Real Health Lauren (if you are looking for a strategic, healthy nutrition and fitness plan, you NEED to check-in with Miss USA Finalist and Miss America State Swimsuit Winner – Lauren Carter, RN). Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to vote for the Graham Automall People’s Choice Semi-Finalist http://missohio.org/miss-ohio-week-2013/2012-13-local-titleholders/, donate to the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, loan me your lucky necklace, shoes, parade hat, or send me a supportive message. I am very grateful for everything you have all done to help make my dream of singing on the Miss Ohio Stage come true. Thanks to your help, I’m on “The Edge of Glory”! I can’t wait to find out who will represent Ohio at the Miss America Competition in Atlantic City this September.
On May 24, 2013 I had the honor of welcoming Military Flight #606 to the United States with the World Famous Pease Greeters. Captain Robert Carter brought Caroline, Katie and I to Pease Air Force Base at 4:00a to greet and thank our hard working servicemen and women returning from overseas. We also had the chance to meet an incredible group of veterans and volunteers while kicking-off Memorial Day Weekend in a very special way. To all of our brave US Military Men and Women, THANK YOU for your dedication, service and sacrifice.

May 31st already?! Where did this month go?? June is gearing up to be a very exciting month! With Miss Ohio Week only days away, I thought this would be the perfect chance to share the songs that have been pumping me up at the gym!
1. Come & Get It (Jump Smokers Extended Mix) – Selena Gomez
There is nothing I love more than a good remix. This version takes the already catchy Gomez tune and kicks it up that extra notch. It has a strong baseline and a nice pace to help you achieve that 6 minute mile.
2.I Love it – Icona Pop (feat. Charli XCX)
Fast paced power jam that you can’t help but dance/run/sing along too
3. Aaron’s Party (Come Get It) – Aaron Carter
If you say you hate this song, you are lying. Nobody can hate this song, NOBODY! I bet you still remember most of the words to this 90s classic. Fun Fact, Aaron Carter is the youngest male solo artist to have four Top 40 singles.
4.Can’t Hold Us – Macklemore & Ryan Lewis
The Sharkfaced gang has done it again. Let this marching band style tune help you get through those last reps
5.Grown Woman – Beyonce
Is there any better motivation than Beyonce? Nope. This is her new track that you may have heard on the Pepsi Comercial. I cannot stop singing it! Nothing will make you want to strut your stuff on the treadmill more than this tune.
(PS How fierce is that leopard romper?)
Hopefully these 5 tunes can keep your motivation and heart rate up!
